Milk Prices Down in Nearly Every State Last Month

The U.S. milk price for May was $14.50 per hundredweight. The USDA says 22 of the 23 major milk producing states had a decrease in price from April to May, while one state, Virginia, had no change in price.

Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Texas had the largest price decreases and were all down 90 cents per cwt.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.58 per pound on June 29, while barrels were $1.66 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.33 per pound.

For the week ending June 29, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.47 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.56 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.30 per pound.
