Drought Relief Misses Southwest U.S., OH & TN Valleys
USAgNet - 05/27/2022

Areas of drought receded in the face of heavy rainfall this past week, especially in the central to southern Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic states.

Abnormal dryness also shrank in the Pacific Northwest, according to today's Drought Monitor report of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

One of the fronts tapping into Gulf of Mexico moisture moved slowly across the southern Plains near the end of the week, dumping locally heavy rain on parts of Oklahoma and Texas.

Precipitation also fell across parts of North Dakota, and western Great Lakes.

Drought or abnormal dryness expanded or intensified where it continued dry, especially in southern parts of the West, in the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys, and parts of southern New England.
