Webinar Aims to Help Farmers Under Stress

University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor and Extension Specialist John Shutske will be among the presenters of a webinar next week for people who work with farmers that are under stress because of low commodity price. Shutske will highlighting important factors about communicating with a person under chronic stress during the March 27 online program.

Adam Kantrovich, PhD from Clemson University Extension, will discuss the current ag market situation with an overview of how this has affected a farm's financial situation and cash flow.

And attendees will also hear from Andrea Bjornestad of South Dakota State University and Suzanne Pish from Michigan State University. They will elaborate on the detrimental impact of stress on our body and state of mind, providing information on how to recognize some of the warning signs of depression, self-harm and mental illness.

"Farmers and those within the agricultural industry have a tendency to be eternal optimists," Pish said. "But with all of the variability in agriculture, there are times when we can become overwhelmed and stressed more than usual."
