Tom DiLorenzo, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced to research division staff members that about a dozen or so, including Vice President for Research & Economic Development Grant McGimpsey, will soon be moving from the first floor of Twamley Hall to the Tech Accelerator building, along 42nd Street on the western edge of campus.

DiLorenzo and McGimpsey also announced that the division would be restructured slightly: the team of staff members who have been handling research grants and contracts, would be divided roughly between McGimpsey's office and the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Operations, currently headed up by Jed Shivers.

McGimpsey said grants and contracts staff members whose work focuses on the "pre-award" side of research and creative activity would be retained by his office, while staff members who deal with the "post-award" financial side, would be absorbed by Shivers' office.

Among the work that will stay under the Vice President for Research & Economic Development are matters pertaining to institutional compliance of research, corporate engagement and the North Dakota Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research. Staff members with that focus will be set up with new office space in the Tech Accelerator building.

McGimpsey said he welcomes the restructuring, as it allows his division to put an even greater focus on research and faculty development, driving the Grand Challenges, identifying research funding opportunities for faculty and encouraging multi-investigator and multi-disciplinary proposals.
