North Dakota, Manitoba Departments of Agriculture Sign Agreement

The North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner and the Minister of Agriculture in Manitoba, Canada, are collaborating in various areas of agriculture development for mutually beneficial economic growth.

"North Dakota and Manitoba have many common interests in agricultural development," Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said in a release issued Tuesday. "We share similar cultures, geographic features and economic circumstances; and this agreement will help us build upon our long-standing relationship."

Areas of cooperation include:

- Expanding collaborations to include other complementary areas of specialization in respective ag sectors

- Facilitate cooperation and information sharing in agriculture, ag technology, and biosecurity

- Enhancing exchange and cooperation between the participants on priority programs including food waste, agricultural water management and adaptation strategies and plant protein promotion

- Promote working relationships between universities with focus on agricultural economy and other sciences and research.

- Development and expansion of youth leadership and educational programming.

- Exploring joint efforts to facilitate harmonization of transportation regulations with livestock trade.
