Weather Holds North Dakota Farmers to 2 Days for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 2.0 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 0 short, 38 adequate, and 62 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 0 percent very short, 0 short, 52 adequate, and 48 surplus.

Soybean condition rated 3 percent very poor, 10 poor, 34 fair, 46 good, and 7 excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 96 percent, near 100 for both last year and the five-year average. Harvested was 16 percent, well behind 37 last year and 67 average.

Spring wheat harvested was 93 percent, behind 100 both last year and average.

Durum wheat harvested was 88 percent.

Winter wheat planted was 64 percent, well behind 87 last year and 90 average. Emerged was 43 percent, behind 58 last year, and well behind 64 average.

Corn condition rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 27 fair, 53 good, and 10 excellent. Corn dented was 92 percent, behind 100 last year and 99 average. Mature was 42 percent, well behind 96 last year and 87 average. Harvested was 1 percent, behind 11 last year and 12 average.

Canola harvested was 81 percent, behind 97 last year and 99 average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 7 fair, 15 good, and 74 excellent.

Sugarbeets harvested was 32 percent, behind 47 last year, and well behind 77 average.

Sunflower condition rated 1 percent very poor, 10 poor, 21 fair, 64 good, and 4 excellent. Sunflowers bracts turned yellow was 96 percent. Bracts turned brown was 71 percent, well behind 96 last year and 91 average. Harvested was 4 percent, behind 14 last year and 13 average.

Flaxseed harvested was 78 percent.

Potatoes vines dry was 96 percent. Harvested was 57 percent, well behind 83 last year and 85 average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 4 percent very poor, 16 poor, 40 fair, 36 good, and 4 excellent.

Dry edible beans harvested was 53 percent, well behind 94 last year and 90 average.

Lentils harvested was 91 percent.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 7 poor, 23 fair, 59 good, and 9 excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 0 percent very short, 2 short, 64 adequate, and 34 surplus.
