$200K in Federal Funds to Support NDSU Ag Research
North Dakota Ag Connection - 02/11/2016

Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the U.S. Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, as well as the Senate Agriculture Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded a total of $200,000 to North Dakota State University (NDSU) through its Agriculture and Food Research Initiative. The funds have been awarded as follows:

-- $150,000 for research to develop a new approach to address wheat tan spot disease

-- $50,000 to support deployment of sustainable disease and pest resistance in wheat

"NDSU's researchers are on the cutting-edge of the agriculture industry, and their discoveries have helped not only North Dakotans, but other farmers and ranchers across the country," Hoeven said. "Today's funding will support innovation that will help wheat farmers, which are an important part of the agricultural industry."

As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Hoeven works to include language in the year-end funding bill that provided NIFA with $1.3 billion, a $37 million increase over FY15 levels. This funding is critical for the important research done at America's land grant universities, such as NDSU.
