Boost your wool profits - upcoming producer webinar
North Dakota Ag Connection - 03/04/2024

North Dakota State University Extension and University of Minnesota Extension are collaborating to host a webinar on March 14 to revive the wool market for Midwest producers. The event will provide insights into current and future possibilities in wool production, processing, and market dynamics.

Travis Hoffman, a respected sheep specialist with NDSU and UMN Extensions, highlights the stagnant value of fine and medium wools in the Midwest. He emphasizes the potential for producers to enhance the profitability of their 2024 wool clip by engaging with processors and tapping into artisan wool marketing avenues.

Given the modest returns on most fleeces and the specific challenges associated with marketing finer and medium wools, this webinar aims to bridge the gap between sheep producers and wool processors.

Sabrina Florentino, UMN Extension educator, underscores the initiative's goal to forge a robust network connecting wool demand with supply, thereby enriching the entire supply chain.

The webinar will feature insights from industry experts, including Jessie Monson of Yarn Factory LLC, Theresa Bentz of Get Bentz Farm and Badgerface Fiber, and Maddy Bartsch of the Three Rivers Fibershed.

They will share their knowledge on maximizing profitability through fiber animals, exploring new markets, and crafting products that appeal to a wider audience passionate about fiber arts.

This event is a must-attend for sheep and goat producers and fiber enthusiasts keen on exploring innovative market opportunities. Pre-registration is required, with details available at z.umn.edu/GSWool. A Zoom link will be provided upon registration, ensuring participants can join the live session or access the recording later via email.
