New family paid caregiver pilot program launched by ND HHS
North Dakota Ag Connection - 03/27/2024

North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) unveils the Family Paid Caregiver pilot program, aimed at assisting families caring for individuals with extraordinary needs. This initiative allows family caregivers of children or adults enrolled in eligible North Dakota Medicaid 1915(c) waivers to receive payments from the state.

Funding for the pilot program was secured through Senate Bill 2276, passed during the 2023 legislative session. Eligible Medicaid 1915(c) waivers include those for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Children with Medically Fragile Needs, Children’s Hospice, and Traditional Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Developmental Disabilities.

Tina Bay, Director of HHS's Developmental Disabilities Section, expresses excitement about the program, emphasizing its alignment with the agency's priorities of supporting strong, stable, and healthy families.

Applications for the Family Paid Caregiver pilot program will be accepted starting April 1, 2024. Eligible individuals enrolled in the specified Medicaid waivers or legal caregivers of enrollees can apply. Applicants will undergo an assessment to determine eligibility based on the definition of extraordinary care.
