Inspiring Legendary Leaders Conference Coming to Bismarck
North Dakota Ag Connection - 03/22/2017

If you're a football fan, you may recognize Kenyon Salo as a member of the Denver Broncos' Thunderstorm, the parachute team who provides pregame entertainment.

He's made 5,000-plus skydives and more than 400 BASE - building, antenna, span and Earth (cliff) - jumps.

But Salo also is one of the top trainers, facilitators and speakers on leadership, team building, inspiration and motivation. Plus, he's the founder of a company called The Bucket List Life, which helps people fulfill their dreams and change the lives of others.

He'll share his bucket list life model at Inspiring Legendary Leaders, a statewide leadership conference that will be held April 11 at the North Dakota Heritage Center and State Museum in Bismarck. He also is the emcee for the conference.

The conference will inspire participants to enhance their personal and community leadership skills, and help create the community in which they want to live, according to Lynette Flage, director of the North Dakota State University Extension Service's Center for Community Vitality. The NDSU Extension Service and North Dakota Leadership Network are hosting the conference.

"Developing and inspiring North Dakota leaders is a key mission of the NDSU Extension Service," Flage says. "With that in mind, we are excited to have motivational keynote speaker Kenyon Salo at our leadership conference. With his high energy, natural enthusiasm and dynamic message, attendees will be sure to benefit in both their personal and professional lives."

The conference also includes a breakout session featuring Jody Hornvedt, an Extension educator in leadership and civic engagement at University of Minnesota Extension. Hornvedt will discuss how to inspire leadership through stories.

Ignite Talks will be another highlight of the conference.

"Ignite Talks, or presentations, are five-minute, fast and fun informative talks that are being held worldwide," Flage says. "We will be showcasing North Dakota speakers who will share their inspiring stories and innovative ideas."

Ignite presenters and their topics are:

- Joe Burgum and Simone Wai - Creating a Compelling Community Culture: a place that you want to live is a place where you belong

- David Leingang - Lemonade Day: a fun and experiential program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their very own business, a lemonade stand

- Natalie Muruato - Moving Bricks, Walls and People Where There Are No Mountains: how taking the lead in renovating a small-town movie theater revitalized and reconnected an entire community

- Roxi Pfliiger and Peter Pomonis - Leading with HeART: the story of how Bismarck's Art Alley was created and the leadership lessons learned throughout the process

- Hannah Rexine and Morgan Fischer - 4-H Ambassador Service Leads to Community Service: how projects developed and delivered through 4-H Ambassadors in Burleigh County have benefited members and the community

- Stacy Schaffer - 31:8 Project: an effort created to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves in human trafficking

Space is limited, so those planning to attend should register as early as possible. Visit https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/inspire for more information and to register.
