Halliburton Donates to College's Petroleum Department

Five Halliburton tools worth an estimated $42,000 dollars were donated to Williston State College's Petroleum Department late last semester. Welding students under the direction of Tim Delorme, WSC's Welding Instructor have built a display for the tools.

Andrew Eis, Halliburton's District Service Manager for Completion Tools, provided Gerald McGillivray, WSC's Petroleum Technology Instructor, with the background of each tool donated.

They were cleaned, painted, and approved for donation before Halliburton delivered them to WSC. The donated tools included a 4 1/2" RTTS (Retrievable, Test, Treat, Squeeze) packer, a 7" Versa-Set packer, a 4 1/2" RapidStage frac sleeve, a 4 1/2" Fas Drill frac plug, and a Production Sand Screen.

"I would like to thank everyone at Halliburton involved in the generous donation of these tools and equipment," stated McGillivray. "We will use them immediately as visual and research aids to show our Petroleum Technology students 'real world' examples of these downhole tools and their uses."

Petroleum Technology students visited Halliburton's facility on October 12, 2016, where they were educated on Halliburton's involvement with horizontal drilling, wellbore construction, and multi-stage well completions. The field trip and presentations were led by Eis (Well Drilling and Completions), Sean Hapip (Field Operations & Cement Trucks), and Clair Mattson (Pumping Equipment Technology & Troubleshooting). Job requirements and opportunities were shared by Halliburton's HR Representative, Gail Pahler.

"At the end of the field trip, Andrew showed the students the tools that would be donated to the school," explained Natalie Boese, WSC Communications Specialist. "It was a unique experience to see the generosity and consideration of Halliburton for our program."

Last semester, three WSC Petroleum Automation students accepted positions with Halliburton. This year's WSC Petroleum Program students attended Halliburton's January Job Fair.

"The donation of these tools, and especially Halliburton's time, further demonstrates that Halliburton is a valuable partner and resource for the Petroleum Technology Program and Williston State College," stated McGillivray.
