Carrington Center Offers Weed ID Resources
North Dakota Ag Connection - 06/27/2017

North Dakota State University's Carrington Research Extension Center has a weed arboretum (living weed exhibit) that's a resource for informal or formal weed identification.

"The first step in weed management is plant identification," says Greg Endres, the NDSU Extension Service's cropping systems specialist at the center. "Pictures are useful, but live plants grown in a natural environment are ideal for individual learning or for teaching agricultural audiences."

The weed arboretum contains more than 60 weeds arranged in groups. They include North Dakota noxious weeds, perennials, biennials, annual or winter annual grasses, annual broadleaves and winter annual broadleaves.

"Individuals or groups are invited to visit the display anytime, with best viewing now through July," Endres says. "Several groups already have scheduled formal weed identification sessions at the center this summer."

Contact the CREC at 701-652-2951 for more information, or to schedule a guided tour of the weed exhibit or a formal weed identification session.
