N.D. Farmers Get Nearly 5 Days for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 2 percent very short, 14 short, 71 adequate, and 13 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 7 percent very short, 18 short, 67 adequate, and 8 surplus.

Soybean condition rated 0 percent very poor, 4 poor, 26 fair, 65 good, and 5 excellent. Soybeans emerged was 92 percent, near 96 last year and 95 for the five-year average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 17 fair, 75 good, and 7 excellent. Spring wheat jointed was 62 percent, behind 80 last year and 76 average. Headed was 2 percent, well behind 23 last year and 25 average.

Durum wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 24 fair, 71 good, and 4 excellent. Durum wheat emerged was 95 percent. Jointed was 53 percent, well behind 74 last year, and behind 61 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 20 fair, 69 good, and 7 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 93 percent, near 96 both last year and average. Headed was 52 percent, behind 65 last year and 66 average.

Corn condition rated 0 percent very poor, 5 poor, 22 fair, 68 good, and 5 excellent. Corn emerged was 95 percent, near 99 last year and 98 average.

Canola condition rated 3 percent very poor, 12 poor, 34 fair, 50 good, and 1 excellent. Canola emerged was 97 percent. Blooming was 6 percent, behind 25 last year, and well behind 28 average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 0 percent very poor, 0 poor, 4 fair, 15 good, and 81 excellent.

Oats condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 19 fair, 76 good, and 4 excellent. Oats emerged was 97 percent, near 96 last year and 98 average. Jointed was 57 percent, well behind 77 last year, and behind 75 average. Headed was 2 percent, behind 18 last year, and well behind 25 average.

Barley condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 20 fair, 76 good, and 3 excellent. Barley jointed was 65 percent, behind 82 last year and 77 average. Headed was 1 percent, behind 19 last year, and well behind 24 average.

Dry edible peas condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 25 fair, 71 good, and 3 excellent. Dry edible peas emerged was 93 percent. Blooming was 15 percent, well behind 42 last year and 40 average.

Sunflower condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 21 fair, 76 good, and 2 excellent. Sunflowers planted was 93 percent, behind 98 last year, and near 97 average. Emerged was 77 percent, near 81 last year.

Flaxseed condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 28 fair, 70 good, and 1 excellent. Flaxseed emerged was 94 percent, equal to last year. Blooming was 3 percent, behind 10 both last year and average.

Potato condition rated 0 percent very poor, 0 poor, 15 fair, 74 good, and 11 excellent. Potatoes emerged was 98 percent, near 97 last year, and ahead of 90 average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 0 percent very poor, 0 poor, 22 fair, 71 good, and 7 excellent. Dry edible beans emerged was 93 percent, near 95 last year, and equal to average.

Alfalfa condition rated 0 percent very poor, 7 poor, 31 fair, 59 good, and 3 excellent. Alfalfa first cutting was 11 percent, well behind 32 last year.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 24 fair, 58 good, and 8 excellent.
