Hoeven Working to Advance N.D. Tourism Industry
North Dakota Ag Connection - 08/29/2016

Senator John Hoeven met with North Dakota tourism industry leaders to discuss the future of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP). Since his time as governor, Hoeven has worked to enhance the state's tourism industry, preserve its national parks and invest in North Dakota communities.

"One of North Dakota's most remarkable assets is Theodore Roosevelt National Park, a beautiful and rugged landscape that made a deep and lasting impression on our 26th President," Hoeven said. "Today, hundreds of thousands of visitors enjoy the park each year, and I look forward to working with tourism industry leaders to promote not only Theodore Roosevelt National Park, but other important destinations throughout North Dakota as well."

In January, Hoeven announced that the travel editor of the New York Times had ranked the Theodore Roosevelt National Park fifth on its worldwide list of "Places to Go in 2016," and spoke on the Senate floor inviting travelers from around the world to visit. Hoeven has also worked to preserve the historical, economic and cultural significance of the American bison, which played a key role in President Roosevelt's fascination in North Dakota. In May, the senator announced that the President signed the National Bison Legacy Act, legislation introduced by Hoeven and Senator Martin Heinrich, into law.

Hoeven, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the Interior Appropriations Committee has approved more than $20 million program to match donations dollar for dollar to leverage partnerships to help encourage more investment in national parks.
