N.D. Farms Receive No Rain This Week

For the week ending Sunday, temperatures averaged below normal in the southern half of the State and near normal in the north, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Little to no rain was received during the week, except for portions of east central North Dakota which recorded an inch or more. Small grain harvest was wrapping up around the State.

Producers continued haying operations. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 17 short, 69 adequate, and 10 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 5 percent very short, 15 short, 70 adequate, and 10 surplus.

Durum wheat condition rated 2 percent very poor, 4 poor, 14 fair, 62 good, and 18 excellent. Durum wheat mature was 89 percent, near 91 last year. Harvested was 55 percent, near 56 last year and well ahead of 36 for the five-year average.

Spring wheat mature was 99 percent, near 98 last year. Harvested was 82 percent, near 81 last year, and well ahead of 55 average.

Barley mature was 99 percent. Harvested was 90 percent, near 93 last year, but well ahead of 66 average.

Oats harvested was 91 percent, near 87 last year, and well ahead of 63 average.

Corn condition rated 1 percent very poor, 4 poor, 17 fair, 62 good, and 16 excellent. Corn dough was 84 percent, near 88 last year, but ahead of 77 average. Dented was 41 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 28 average. Mature was 1 percent, near 0 last year and 2 average.

Soybeans condition rated 2 percent very poor, 5 poor, 19 fair, 60 good, and 14 excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 98 percent, near 99 last year and equal to average. Dropping leaves was 13 percent, behind 28 last year, but near 12 average.

Canola condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 18 fair, 67 good, and 11 excellent. Canola coloring was 99 percent, near 97 last year and 95 average. Harvested was 57 percent, ahead of 49 last year and 39 average.

Sunflowers condition rated 1 percent very poor, 4 poor, 22 fair, 67 good, and 6 excellent. Sunflowers ray flowers dried was 66 percent, ahead of 53 last year, and well ahead of 35 average. Bracts turning yellow was 30 percent, ahead of 12 last year. Bracts turning brown was 3 percent.

Flaxseed condition rated 1 percent very poor, 4 poor, 16 fair, 73 good, and 6 excellent. Flaxseed coloring was 98 percent, near 99 last year, but ahead of 89 average. Harvested was 37 percent, near 38 last year, but ahead of 22 average.

Dry peas harvested was 96 percent, near 95 last year, and well ahead of 76 average.

Dry edible beans condition rated 6 percent very poor, 6 poor, 26 fair, 51 good, and 11 excellent. Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 50 percent, behind 64 last year, but ahead of 37 average. Harvested was 4 percent, behind 9 last year, and equal to average.

Potatoes condition rated 15 percent very poor, 15 poor, 30 fair, 33 good, and 7 excellent. Potato vines dry was 31 percent, ahead of 24 last year and 16 average. Harvested was 1 percent, equal to last year.

Alfalfa hay condition rated 7 percent very poor, 14 poor, 34 fair, 42 good, and 3 excellent. Alfalfa hay second cutting was 88 percent complete, behind 94 last year, but near 87 average.

Sugarbeets condition rated 4 percent very poor, 6 poor, 26 fair, 51 good, and 13 excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 4 percent, equal to last year, and near 2 average.

Lentils harvested was 64 percent, behind 78 last year.

Pasture and range conditions rated 6 percent very poor, 11 poor, 28 fair, 51 good, and 4 excellent. Stock water supplies rated 5 percent very short, 19 short, 74 adequate, and 2 surplus.
