Dauwen Named N.D. Teacher of the Year
North Dakota Ag Connection - 09/30/2016

Gov. Jack Dalrymple and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler Thursday presented Nanci Dauwen, a math teacher at Sheyenne High School in West Fargo, with the 2017 North Dakota Teacher of the Year award.

The announcement was made during a ceremony at the school that was attended by administrators, educators, representatives from the state's education associations, and students. Dalrymple and Baesler were joined by West Fargo Superintendent David Flowers, Sheyenne High School Principal Greg Grooters, and the 2017 Teacher of the Year finalists.

"North Dakota has one of the best educational systems in the nation and that is due in large part to the great work that is going on in classrooms across our state," said Dalrymple. "Nanci and the Teacher of the Year finalists exemplify the innovative and inspiring work being performed by North Dakota's teachers and their dedication to shaping the lives and futures of our young people."

Dauwen was selected from a pool of four finalists that included Tom Kjelland, an instrumental music director with Valley City High School; Jennifer Kujanson, a second grade teacher with Ed Clapp Elementary School in Fargo; and Kristi Mahrer, an English teacher with Wahpeton High School.

"Nanci Dauwen is an exceptional teacher," said Baesler. "She conveys sincerity and humility. She understands that when you build relationships with students, they will care, and in return, they will do their best. We are fortunate to have high-quality teachers in North Dakota, and Nanci exemplifies the best of the best."
