Hoeven Presses Corps to Resolve DAPL Protests
North Dakota Ag Connection - 10/21/2016

Senator John Hoeven this week met with the head of the Army Corps of Engineers, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy and Lowry Crook, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works to press the Corps to issue a final easement allowing construction on the Dakota Access Pipeline to be completed.

"I met with Secretary Darcy in person to make the case that we need to get the situation with the Dakota Access Pipeline resolved," said Hoeven. "That means getting the Corps to approve the easement so construction can be completed and life can return to normal for our farmers and ranchers in the region, and for our law enforcement who are working very hard to protect lives and property. We need to have this situation resolved."

The senator has also been working to support state and local law enforcement, including bringing in additional law enforcement resources through EMAC, the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, so that people living in the region feel safe and private property rights are protected. Hoeven and the congressional delegation have also been working to bring federal resources to assist local law enforcement in their efforts to deal with the protests and keep people safe.
